Polyphenols (phenols) - eugenol, thymol, carvachol

Zoran Maksimovic, assistant professor of the Institute of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Belgrade.

Science has confirmed that the plant polyphenols are important exogenous antioxidants. These ingredients include low-molecular phenols (eugenol, thymol and carvachol in essential oils), fenolcarbonic acid, flavonoids and tannins.

Polyphenols have beneficial effect on the health of peripheral circulation blood vessels, preventing the accumulation of red blood cells and lowering cholesterol, causing slight relaxation of smooth muscles (by lowering pressure), increase the secretion of bile and neutralize free radicals in the body which react with DNA, proteins, phospholipids and other molecules, causing pathological changes. They also have anti-allergic, anti-viral and cardioprotective properties.
